The Gitcoin Hackathon results are in and the FOAM team is bubbling with joy! We were blown away by all 12 of the high quality submissions. We’ve selected 6 all star MVP’s to win the FOAM bounties. Here’s a break down of the winning projects:

FOAM Map Viewer

First, for the Mobile-Friendly Map Viewer Bounty we have another beautiful and efficient FOAM Map Viewer! This clean and easy to use project works wonderfully on both mobile and desktop to display the FOAM Map with Points of Interest and Points of Interest by Tag. All the while it connects to Metamask. Try it today on a mobile web3 browser such as https://wallet.coinbase.com/

0xMap

For the Verify Points Of Interest In Person Bounty David Hodge’s 0x Map pushes life’s boundaries through an Android app that leverages Augmented Reality (ArCore) and 3D mapping (Mapbox) to create a visual reference tool for FOAM POI data. For reference, POI refers to a Point of Interest which is simply a point on the FOAM Map that has been created by another FOAM user/cartographer and challenged by other users. They make up the bread and butter of FOAM, distributed/decentralized mapping and this winning project! The 0x Map further enables individuals to verify points of interest by alerting users when they are near a challenge POI (while app is in the background) and sending them a local notification to easily open into the app and see the POI details. That user can then put in their two cents now that they’re at the POI in question IRL.

The above describes why this project is super useful to distributed mapping efforts. But what’s truly cool is that it achieves all this in a futuristic and interactive AR that’s a thrill to use. The mobile-friendly map viewer uses camera and location and deep links to 3rd party Ethereum wallets apps. These combine to give you a contrast between AR/ Map View that displays the world as we know it plus a scattering of AR Points of Interests queried from the FOAM Map. The user can then click on each POI to see more details and which they can verify or even create a new POI. Seeing is believing, so check out the demo video of a person using the Augmented Reality feature to verify a Busch Gardens POI.

FOAM Map Mobile Location Notifications

Also for the Verify Points Of Interest In Person Bounty this entry similarly provides an efficient and beautiful UI of the FOAM Map on Mobile. FOAM Maps notifies us when we are near a POI and in a single dashboard enables us to view all POIs, challenge POIs, and manage FOAM token allowances. This application uses GPS based triggers to notify users when they are near a point for inspection, validation or exploration!

Relevant + FOAM Integration

Taking home the FOAM Message Board Based On Reputation/Participation prize, is our friends at Relevant! We’re thrilled not only to receive this relevant submission but to use it in future community managing.

This winning project creates a community message board that utilizes 3Box and Metamask login flow plus a custom plugin that enables the FOAM community admin to set parameters required for participation. For example, the requirement might be 100 FOAM Tokens in your wallet and 10 verified points of interest.

Users that satisfy the above participation parameters are allowed to make posts and comments in the FOAM forum. Additionally, they receive a Reputation score proportional to their activity via the Relevant token mechanism.

The reputation score impacts the weight of the user’s upvotes and downvotes. This maintains the quality and relevance of the discussions by maintaining quality and relevance of the discussers.

Demo the project here

Firey

Firey is a message board that allows people to join based on participation in the FOAM . The participation measure will in consideration are the number of FOAM tokens, POIs and Challenges. This project applies a reputation layer to enable a manageable community message board and improve participation through gamification.

Firey is based on the idea of Minimal Viable Participation or MVP. This means that each thread will be created with a set of rules that decide what’s the minimum elements to participate in the thread. One important thing to note is every thread will be located over one POI plus a given bounding box to create the area of participation, this means that Every user that want to participate or create a thread in a given zone needs to have participated in this area at least one time plus the requirements of tokens, POIs and challenges. FOAM Guides

The super cool FOAM Guides lets you find and review your next favorite restaurant through decentralized and community driven reviews via the FOAM Map. Think, decentralized version of Yelp oriented on FOAM Map. The FOAM Guides project combines 3Box Identity/Reputation service with FOAM Points to Interest to deliver this awesome, decentralized review product.

The project creates ‘FOAM Guides’ out of the reviewers based on their reputation for reviewing and the verified POI. The Reviewers (or ‘guides’) can be ranked from beginner to expert with expert reviews displayed first on their respective POI.

Use this awesome project

Lazarev was motivated to create this project as centralized maps (Google, Bing) often sell private user data to better target ads while reviews systems (Yelp) often hide or display unreliable reviews. He is excited to use Blockchain to ‘proof’ these vulnerabilities.

We are so thankful to the tremendous support from the folks at Gitcoin for a super successful event that spurred these great projects. And of course we’re ecstatic for the enthusiasm from all the Gitcoin hackers who built on FOAM this time around. Everyone is a winner and we can’t wait to start using these projects in the every day!
